Slicing a Devine Color Pie

When it comes to grays, or gray greens, or gray blues, you are less likely to gray out the color if you lighten it because the color is already gray (wink!)

A lot of people ask me if it's ok to change a Devine Color formula to get a lighter version of the color.

This is what I tell them:

"Before you change a Devine formula to lighten a color, look for other lighter Devine colors in the line that compliment the color. Devine is an artist palette and there are several versions of complimentary lighter colors that work to combine and  create personal "works of art" without having to lighten other colors."

EX: A  lighter version of Devine Pecan can be Devine Macadamia, Devine Shell, or Devine Ginseng depending of your fabrics, wood tones, and lighting. This makes Devine Pecan variations that are both personal, and artistic.

If you were to lighten Devine Pecan, you might end up with a gray/flat version of the color--losing depth and saturation. Think of it as watering soup, and making it cold, especially if the soup (or color) is warm!

I danced "that" Tango in 2008 because of a little trend-proof color called Devine Buffalo

In 2008 I wanted to dance so I chose a tangerine tango to make a whole dance floor out of it!

I chose this beautiful carpet color (currently trending) to be a perfect palette companion (a warm bright) to a new neutral gray paint color (airy cool) I created at the time called Devine Buffalo. The paint version of my floor is the deliciously stunning Devine Orangutan. Glad to see Tangerine Tango be the color of the year and gray neutrals become the new "taupes".

Colorful Nursery Rhyme Trend

A strong trend of gray walls has now invaded the world of nurseries! It is a terrific alternative to baby blue and a perfect neutral that says, "pink, pink, you don't stink!" Nor any other color you love, for that matter. No wonder colors like Devine Buffalo, Grizzly, and Humidor are gracing so many walls because of their outstanding disposition to show off bright colors in a beautiful way! Here, here, to grays out there...nobody does it better.

Ceilings: Finish the thought, or should I say the box?

On A Gray Scale...

When you use deeper gray on walls, such as Devine Humidor, Devine Buffalo, or Paseo it tips the scales of color with balance. Stack as many colors as you want: a colorful sofa in the latest, greatest trend color (Tangerine Tango 2012 anyone?), on top of a navaho mauve/red/green print, add gold frames, colorful art, Turqouise glazed lamps, a casual pine table, a chocolate and white printed pillow...and voila' who counting how many colors ar in the room, but me? This looks like a fantastic room waiting to host great conversations.
